The Record Box

Long ago, when my site was in its infancy, a page named “The Record Box” was one of my favorite pages on my website. I only really used it for my SCM Player, which eventually stopped working due to youtube errors... I was crushed, as I quite liked the page. I love sharing my taste in music as it’s something very important to me. But tonight! It is resurrected once more! As a place to share music related things!!!

I'm trying to get myself to listen to albums more consistently so what better way to do that than to make a log of albums I've listened to? I thought it sounded like a fun idea. (The favorite track category is for my favorite track on that listen rather than overall favorite, hopefully that makes sense!)

Thoughts: It's crazy how Kate Bush made getting laid by a snowman sound sensual and tragic and ethereal and we just let her do it. Anyway I hadn't given this one a good listen in a long time and I maintain that it is woefully underrated as a part of her catalogue. It is so beautiful. My favorite of the words for snow is Wenceslas air, by the way...

Thoughts: A truly amazing example of ethereal wave as a subgenre, lingering in that twilight place between life and death. I only wish it was easier to track this one down since the only youtube mirror seems to be incomplete but the version on Spotify has a bunch of CD skips on all the best tracks. WORTH IT THOUGH. Every track could have been a favorite but the Mouth to Mouth cover is truly incredible.

Thoughts: I really liked that other album so I decided to give their debut a spin as well. I quite liked it but not as much as Vision of Sorrows.

Thoughts: I’ve always heard good things about this album so I gave it a spin. It really hits the sweet spot of “I could go crazy to this in the club” while also being more spooky and atmospheric. Good stuff!

Thoughts: Saw the music video for Amanaemonesia and thought it was a really strong track so I checked out the album. It was really good, one of my other favorite tracks was Wrong Opinion. The more I chew on this album the more I like it, but Amanaemonesia is by far the best track on it.

Thoughts: A big favorite of mine so I put it on while I did my dailies in Umamusume this morning. I was training Vampire Rice Shower so it felt appropriate and the album finished right as I completed my run. Neat! God I love this album

Thoughts: I've consistently loved everything Hemlocke Springs has put out- this is her first proper album release and it's full of total jams! I've always really liked how her style takes a lot of queues from 80s New Wave without feeling overly nostalgia bait-y. This album lived up to my anticipation! Go check it out :)
